Jiko Lishe is a component under a project titled “Building Resilience of Agri-Food Systems and Better
Nutrition in the context of the global pandemic”. The project is implemented by Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) Tanzania in collaboration with different actors. The project is executed under
EU funded multi-sectoral program ‘’AGRI-CONNECT’’ through support to the Ministry of Agriculture
(Mainland and Zanzibar). The aim of this project is to reduce malnutrition and build the resilience of
agri-food systems in Tanzania. PELUM Tanzania has signed a Letter of Agreement (LoA) with FAO to
implement Jiko Lishe component to promote community behavioural changes, to achieve a better
nutritional outcome through National multidimensional campaign on healthy diets and good
nutrition practices based on locally available food. This program will be implemented in 6 Districts
(4 districts councils in Southern Highlands - Agro-Ecological Zone (SHAEZ) and 2 Districts in
Zanzibar). This includes Mbeya, Rungwe, Iringa, Njombe, Wete in North Pemba, and Central in
South Unguja.
The Jiko Lishe which will run for 18 (eighteen) months will provide handbook for Community-Based
Cooking Programs (CBCP), launch 100 Community kitchens and host educational cooking camps in
Southern Highlands - Agro-Ecological Zone (AEZ) and Zanzibar. Moreover, will establish home
gardens for 50 homes (35 SHAEZ and 15 Zanzibar), Small livestock keeping for 50 women-led
households (35 SHAEZ and 15 Zanzibar).
